Dr. Quinn_________________________________________________________
This technique -- of appealing to the audience's conscience by inviting it to identify with Dr. Quinn - frequently works. It is most effective in the episodes that portray the destruction of the Indians and the efforts of Dr. Quinn and Sully to save them. In one of its most exceptional depictions, the series shows the mass slaughter of a local tribe of Cheyenne by troops. Dr. Quinn, who is helpless to save these victims of hate and prejudice, witnesses the aftermath of the slaughter. In a brutally direct sequence, we see Dr. Quinn's reaction to the trauma as she is unable to accept what she has seen.
